“Sinpaş Eco Town” and “Izmir Fair Center” by EAA Architects

EAA-Emre Arolat Architects was deemed two awards in “Green Good Design Awards 2011″ with its “Sinpaş Eco Town” and “İzmir Fair Center” projects.

The 3-year old Green Good Design Awards organized by European Center for Architecture and Chicago Athenaeum aims to draw attention to sustainable designs for a more livable environment and grants awards with this awareness to architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, industrial design and graphic design projects.

Jury of the competition consisting of the members of International Advisory Committee of European Center and the leading names in various sectors, chose 120 projects among thousands of participants from 27 countries as “Outstanding Examples of Green Design”. Each project that obtained an award in Green Good Design Awards will be attending the exhibition to be opened in Contemporary Space Athens. The exhibition will meet larger audience by touring the most important architecture and design centers of Europe throughout 2012.
Eco-roofs of “Izmir Fair Complex” designed by EAA-Emre Arolat Architects in İzmir especially caught the jury’s eye; these eco-roofs were designed to highlight natural and volumetric features of the region, and to present the topographic, natural and climatic conditions of İzmir with a strong architectural approach.

EAA’s another project in Halkalı, İstanbul, “Sinpaş Eco Town“, which aims to bring sustainability methods forward and make them a part of the whole soul of the architecture, was formed with green area maximization, developed social infrastructure with proper density, protection of habitat and re-gaining its missed features, prevention of urban heat islands, increasing shadow regions and green roofs, putting parking areas under the green roofs as much as possible, articulation of building envelope so that it can minimize the energy consumption of large systems with heating – venting systems, minimizing cold water usage with passive design methods and using treated waste water rather than city water in landscape areas.
